Buyer protection

The single question worth answering on this page: if you pay for cards and they never turn up, what happens to your money? The honest answer depends on who you bought from, and there are exactly two kinds of seller here.

Two kinds of seller, and the difference matters

Our own storeIndependent sellers
Who you pay Burnett Deck Tech, at checkout the seller, directly — you arrange it with them
Does PalSingles handle the money? Yes — it is our own shop No. Never. We are not in the payment at all
What protects you PayPal Purchase Protection, plus us PayPal Purchase Protection, if you pay the right way
Who can refund you We can The seller, or PayPal. We cannot.

Every listing says which it is before you commit, and an independent seller's listing is labelled Pay seller direct. If you are ever unsure which you are dealing with, look at the card page.

Paying an independent seller

Pay with PayPal Goods & Services, and nothing else. It is the only common method that gives you any way to get your money back. Never send PayPal Friends & Family, Venmo, Zelle or Cash App to someone you have not bought from before — those are treated as gifts, they carry no protection whatsoever, and nobody, including us, can recover them for you.

Every seller here agrees to accept Goods & Services as a condition of selling. A seller who pressures you toward Friends & Family, or offers a discount for it, is asking you to give up your only recourse. Do not do it, do not pay, and tell us. That is grounds for removal and we would rather hear about it from you than from the person it worked on.

Beyond that: the seller's rating and completed-order count are on every listing, new sellers are labelled as new rather than dressed up with a percentage calculated from three orders, and the whole exchange stays in a message thread here. If it later goes wrong, that thread is the record.

Where your money actually goes

Buying from our own store, you pay us at checkout and we handle it like any shop. Buying from an independent seller, you pay them — directly, by an arrangement the two of you make in your message thread. It never passes through PalSingles at any point.

We want to be plain about the consequence rather than let it sound like an advantage: because we never hold your payment to an independent seller, we have no ability to withhold it from them or hand it back to you on our own authority. We cannot reverse a payment we never took. Anyone who tells you a marketplace can do that is describing a different arrangement from this one.

What we can do is act on the record. Every request, the price agreed, the seller's answer and the tracking they upload all live here. We can require a seller to put something right, mark down their standing, withhold their listings and remove them. What gets your money back is PayPal.

What protects you

PayPal Purchase Protection, provided you paid the way we ask you to — see above. It applies between you and the seller, on PayPal's terms, enforced by PayPal, independently of us, and unaffected by anything in our policies or by whether this business still exists.

In practice that covers an order that never arrives and an order that arrives significantly different from its description. PayPal's own dispute window is considerably longer than ours, and you never have to exhaust our process before using theirs.

If something goes wrong, open a PayPal dispute. That is the step that can actually return your money. Tell us as well — it affects the seller's standing here and whether they keep selling — but do not wait for us before going to PayPal, and do not let our process run down their clock.

How buying from an independent seller works

  1. You ask to buy. Nothing is charged. The seller is told, and a message thread opens between you.
  2. They confirm or decline, usually within a day or two. Declining is free for them, so a decline usually means exactly what it says — most often the card sold elsewhere first.
  3. You pay them, Goods & Services, in the thread.
  4. They ship with tracking. Tracking is required for an independent seller to mark an order sent — it is the record that protects both of you.
  5. You confirm it arrived, and can leave a review.

A seller who has not answered within 48 hours is chased automatically. If they still do not answer, nothing has been charged and you are free to buy elsewhere — but do tell us, because a seller who leaves buyers waiting is one we want to know about.

If a parcel goes missing

Message the seller first — most "missing" parcels are a carrier scan that has not updated, and the seller can tell you in a minute. If the tracking genuinely stops, or the seller does not respond within three days, open a dispute with us and open a case with PayPal. Ours puts pressure on the seller and affects their standing here; PayPal's is the one that can actually get your money back, because your payment went straight to the seller and never passed through us.

If the cards are not what was described

Photograph what arrived, next to the packaging if the damage looks like transit damage, and raise it with the seller within 30 days of delivery. Condition grading is a judgement call and reasonable people disagree; clear photographs settle almost every case without anybody needing to arbitrate.

See the refund policy for what you are entitled to and who pays return postage.

What this does not cover

  • A deal moved off the site altogether. Paying an independent seller directly is normal here — that is the model, and the request, the agreed price and the thread all stay on PalSingles as the record. What you should not do is let a seller move the conversation to email, Discord or text and settle there: at that point there is no order, no thread, nothing for us to act on, and no standing for the seller to lose. A seller who suggests it is removing your recourse, not saving you a fee.
  • Paying by a method with no protection — Friends & Family, Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, gift cards, crypto. See above. This is the single most common way people lose money buying cards online.
  • Buyer's remorse after a card has been correctly described and correctly delivered — though many sellers will accept a return anyway; see their storefront policy.
  • Damage caused after delivery.
  • Delivery to an address you entered incorrectly.

Before you buy

A minute of reading prevents most problems. On each storefront you can see the seller's rating, how many orders they have completed, whether their references on other marketplaces have been verified by us, how long they take to dispatch, where they ship from, and their own returns policy. New sellers are labelled as new rather than dressed up with a percentage calculated from three orders.
