Most of what happens here is two people trying to move a card from one collection to another. That should be pleasant, and usually is. This page is about keeping it that way.
What we expect
- Assume good faith. Most problems are a slow carrier, a missed message or an honest difference of opinion about a corner.
- Be specific rather than annoyed. "The top-left corner has whitening the photo did not show, here is a picture" gets a card replaced. "This is a joke" gets a defensive reply.
- Give people a chance to fix it before escalating.
- Keep it about the transaction.
Not acceptable, anywhere on the site
This applies to messages, reviews, seller replies, storefront text, store names and photographs.
- Harassment. Repeated unwanted contact, pile-ons, following someone across the site to keep at them.
- Hate speech. Attacks or slurs based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- Threats of violence or harm, to anyone, however hedged.
- Sexual content, and any sexualisation of minors, which is reported to the authorities without exception.
- Doxxing. Publishing anyone's private information — home address, workplace, phone number, family details. This includes a seller's address, which you receive to send a return and for no other purpose.
- Impersonation of another user, of a business, or of PalSingles staff.
- Extortion. Threatening a negative review, a dispute or a report to extract something you are not entitled to. This applies to buyers and sellers equally.
Reviews
Reviews carry more weight than anything else on a storefront, so:
- Review your actual experience with that actual order.
- Sellers may reply publicly. That is the appropriate response to a review you disagree with.
- Sellers may not pressure you to change or remove a review, offer you anything for one, or retaliate.
- We remove reviews containing personal information, hate speech, threats or content unrelated to the transaction. We do not remove reviews for being negative — a review system that only keeps the good ones is worthless.
- A seller who resolves a problem well may reasonably ask a buyer to consider updating a review. Asking once is fine. Asking repeatedly is harassment.
Messages
Conversations between a buyer and a seller are private between those two parties. Our moderators can read a conversation only when it has been reported or a dispute has been opened on it — and when that happens, both parties can see that it has been flagged.
We say this plainly because a private channel that is quietly readable is worse than one that is openly moderated.
Reporting
Every listing, storefront, review and conversation has a report link. Reports go to a person. Tell us what happened and, where you can, point to the specific message or content.
If you feel unsafe, report it and stop replying. You are never obliged to keep talking to someone to resolve an order — that is what disputes are for.
Reporting in bad faith — to win an argument, or to damage a competitor — is itself a violation.
What we do about it
Proportionately, and we keep a record. A first lapse in an otherwise heated but ordinary disagreement is usually a warning. Sustained harassment, hate speech and threats close accounts on the first occurrence.
We take context into account. Someone who has been messed about for three weeks and is finally short with a seller is not the same as someone who opened with abuse, and we would rather read the thread than count the adjectives.
